Production Manager

Essex, England, United Kingdom (On-site)

Main Purpose of Role

Whilst maintaining the safest possible working environment, managing and motivating production staff. Managing equipment, to achieve planned production output of high-quality products, maximising the efficiency of labour and machinery. Define and implement continuous improvement actions to maximise the efficiency of the Essex manufacturing site, to mentor and develop key operations staff to assist in that journey. This role may also be the H&S lead for the site.

Core Functions

· Adhere to, and recommend improvements to, all the company’s Health and Safety procedures and processes, chair the monthly H&S meeting (if the H&S site leader)

· Organise the flow and priority of work through the factory, ensuring the correct staffing levels are available and ensuring that equipment, jigs, fixtures, tooling, consumables, drawings etc. are available and that machines are set up on a timely basis with minimum down-time.

· Working through production planners and with other departments, create production plans which meet or exceed customers’ expectations

· Constantly assess and improve the culture of shopfloor teams. Working within our defined HR policies, motivate and develop production employees to be fulfilled and productive members of the team

· Manage production processes to ensure the highest possible product quality levels, working alongside the quality team.

· Ensure all QMS/IMS systems and procedures are adhered to, working with the Quality Manager to ensure we achieve/maintain 9001,14001 and 18001 accreditations

Managerial Functions

· Allocate work to staff according to their capabilities, equipment availability and the workload requirements in the Dept.

· Organise the control, maintenance, replenishment, and issue of stocks of consumables. · Assist staff with technical and other problems, calling on the services of other departments as required.

· Carry out the annual appraisal process for immediate reports and ensure they do the same for all production employees. Use that process to develop and improve the skills and experience of our employees.

· Motivate staff by using their individual abilities, praising effort and achievement, and setting the highest personal example. Stimulate improvements by guidance, training, refresher sessions, warnings or otherwise.

· Assess current and future staff and skill requirements of the Dept. Manage the recruitment of new staff and where possible, personally meet all potential new production recruits.

· Organise the training of staff and participate as appropriate.

· Monitor performance of staff in the department and submit recommendations to the Managing Director for any justified changes in remuneration.

· Monitor the activity and performance of the Dept., comparing with budgets, forecasts, standards, and targets as appropriate; report this via a monthly ‘Board Report’ explaining any significant variances and the actions planned to address, where appropriate.
