Senior Buyer

Our client, an iconic British brand in the construction hardware sector is looking for a progressive Senior Buyer to join their expanding team and help them achieve their growth.
Based in Southeast London area, our client designs, manufactures and sells desirable fittings to the High-End construction industry.
Due to the expansion of their business, they are now looking for an experienced Senior Buyer to come in and lead their direct materials procurement.

 

Job Title:                  Senior Buyer

Position reports to:  Operations Director

 

Role overview:

To play a crucial role in reaching the Client’s operational target of ‘on time in full every time’, ensuring the correct quantity, quality and cost of the ordered items, delivered on time, within the agreed lead times.
The role includes managing and improving the various tactical day to day procurement duties as well as assistance with projects and implementing new ideas. The Senior Buyer is also accountable to ensure availability of consumables and selected stock items (SKU’s) without waste.

Ideal profile:

To be a successful Senior Buyer you require the following skills & attributes:
Someone that is excellent getting the best out of suppliers but not afraid to ‘put the boot in’ and demand over and above service on the occasions it is required. The individual needs to be a creative problem solver who will find a way to get goods to the customers come what may.
Sound knowledge of efficient supply chain and in particular procurement processes and systems.
Excellent interpersonal & communication skills with a Supplier through to Customer orientated attitude. Ability to work well under pressure. Attention to detail, excellent time management and organisation skills.
Working as a Team is crucial. Exposure to operations and planning functions will be an advantage as this role will liaise closely with Operations and Projects Management.

Key Responsibilities:

• Managing the full P2P process (Raising orders, acknowledgement, queries resolution, etc)
• Point of escalation for chasing and expediting orders with suppliers
• Obtaining and processing purchase requests
• Requesting purchase proposals and assessing quotes
• Assessing orders for quality
• Ensuring the optimum maintenance of data in the ERP (price, dates, quantities, etc) as well as identifying and raising technical queries with the ERP developer.
• Liaise daily with Operations, Project and Warehouse (quality, quantity queries, reporting, etc)
• Looking after the high-value projects and fast-track orders from inception to completion, along with the Operations and Projects Teams
• Identify and mitigate risks at all stages of the Procurement process from initial enquiry through to program delivery and contract closure
• Purchase in line with specified cost, quality and delivery targets
• Other operational and purchasing ad hoc duties
• Support Warehouse with Materials & Consumable demand forecasting (MRP) and replenishment disciplines

Skills/ Experience Required:
Required:

• Understanding of manufacturing and machined/CNC metal components
• Product-based business as opposed to a service-based business.
• B2B business as opposed to B2C
• Sound understanding of Purchasing processes, good practice, and governance
• Read and extract materials from drawings, BOQ’s/BOM’s
• Price / Cost control
• Technical knowledge; ability to read technical drawings
• Stock control (essential to ensure availability but lean inventory)
• Comfortable with ERP systems
• Proven track record of suppliers’ evaluation and performance management,
• Procurement for concurrent Projects environment

Nice to have:

• Manufacturing or Trade experience in the Construction and/or manufacturing sectors
• Corporate as well as small business experience
• Knowledge of the hardware/ironmongery industry
• Understanding of manufacturing and machined/CNC metal components
• Experience working with MRP systems
• Competent with MS suite, in particular Excel.

• Timely ordering to ensure OTIF (Standard 98%)
• Accuracy of PO, quantity, price, and quality
• SKU & Consumables availability (Standard 98%)
• Cost Control vs Project Estimates
