Current Vacancy: China Development Manager (Antrim, Northern Ireland)

Our Client is one of the world’s leading suppliers of sensing, electrical protection, control and power management solutions. They design and manufacture devices that help satisfy the world’s growing need for safety, energy efficiency and a clean environment in global automotive, appliance, aircraft, industrial, military, heavy vehicle, heating, air-conditioning and ventilation, data, telecommunications, recreational vehicle and marine markets. 

Our client is developing and producing a broad portfolio of sensors for automotive applications. Car manufacturers today are faced with increasing challenges. Technological requirements are continuously stepped up, because of the demand for performance, safety, efficiency and clean emissions. With their innovative products they strive to contribute to an environmentally friendly industry. We are looking for a new colleague for the position of: 

China Development Manager 

Based in Antrim, the successful candidate will be responsible for the management of various development cross-functional teams working on TPMS projects for Chinese customers. The focus will be on the execution of projects according to agreed development process, and continuous improvement of development activities to build a competitive engineering organization. 

The need is for a commercially minded individual who has significant practical experience of leading engineering teams. You will be able to demonstrate a positive attitude together with excellent `problem solving and decision-making skills. We are looking for someone with the ability to inspire teams and a proven track record of delivering Product Developments on time and within budget.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Engineering, you will also have the opportunity to work closely with the broader Engineering Management team and will have a positive input and influence over our Clients’ product roadmap strategies that will assist the business in expanding into new geographic regions and markets. 

 

What are your tasks and responsibilities? 

  • Manage multiple cross-functional teams to execute projects (targeted for the China market) according to agreed development processes. 
  • Communicate project status to internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Have Management responsibility for Antrim cross-functional Team Leaders, and China TPMS Development Engineering Manager. 
  • Prepare and review technical offerings and development quotes for new business opportunities in the China region. 
  • Review and report on KPIs for development projects. 
  • In collaboration with functional Team Managers, develop tools, capabilities and processes as required to remain competitive in automotive and related markets. 
  • Collaborate with Functional Team managers to support resourcing of cross-functional teams and personal development of engineers. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Honors Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline  
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a Design Engineering role  
  • Previous experience in a technical leadership or team management role 
  • Proven track record of complex project delivery 
  • Excellent project coordination, communication and decision-making skills 
  • Construction and monitoring of KPIs as part of continuous improvement activities 
  • Self-motivated 
  • Ability to work as part of a team to achieve results 
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work to targets 
  • Ability to work under pressure and managing several tasks at any one time 
  • Excellent organizational skills 
  • Ability to support foreign travel as per project requirements 

Desirable criteria: 

  • Experience of working directly with Chinese customers 
  • Basic Chinese language skills
