Mr. Men, a series of children’s books by Roger Hargreaves, currently has over 85 Mr Men and Little Miss characters including Mr Greedy, Mr Bump and Little Miss Chatterbox. Little Miss Inventor, the newest addition to the line-up, is a female engineer and the 36th Little Miss character. She invents the most extraordinary inventions for her friends and is described as “intelligent, ingenious and inventive”. The newest addition launched on 8th March, which is also International Women’s Day.
The demand for highly skilled workers in the engineering and manufacturing industry is growing and the continuing skills-shortage means more young people need to be inspired to get into STEM. The introduction of a female engineer promotes women in STEM positions and challenges the gender stereotype.
